Teirisias

Teirisias, the famous soothsayer of Greece, was born in Thebes and was the son of Eueres and Chariclo. There are a lot of stories that caused his blindness and his ability of telling prophecies.
The most accepted is when he was seven, God blinded him as he revealed certain things that men should not know.
Another story is he was blind as he saw Goddess Athena taking bath. His mother begged Athena to restore his eyes, but instead of restoring his eyes, Athena gave him a staff so that he can walk like having vision and gave him the knowledge of bird.
Another story is he was in a dispute between Hera and Zeus and he went against her, so Hera blinded him. Zeus gave him a longer life and the gift of Prophecy in order to compensate him.

Hai.I want to add here that Teiresias although he was blind but he was intelligently brilliant. As for what I understand, Teiresias can predicted man futures, as far as i concern, he is managed to give clue for the murderer of King Laios to Oedipus. Oedipus seems to be rude towards Teiresias because he was blind and Oedipus assume Teiresias no nothing about what had happened. Actually in the way, Oedipus was blind because he was such a egoistic man who think he was the powerful person and did not want to hear anyone advise. And he also cannot predict the future as Teiresias.

hai there eunice. i've read the same about Teiresias on the internet and i found him very amusing as he appears in a lot of Greek plays apart from Oedipus Rex. do you know that he had turned into a woman once for 10 years and had children? it was totally unexpectable that he had gone through so many adventures in his life. i do wish to know more about him. he has experienced a lot throughout his life and so i believe that is one of his advantage. to be wise an able to predict the future he is also the medium between mere mortal and the Greek Gods. impressive huh? hehe... as far as i am concern his role in Oedipus Rex is very crucial. based from my further reading, he has also been a subject of discussion of a lot of literature students and researchers all around the globe.
