Oedipus Rex

Oedipus Rex, my first reading in drama, it is an interesting story. Oedipus, a wise king, but is he really that wise? Thebes under his control, is having plague, a desease that given by god to make people suffer. Why is God giving this desease to Thebes? Is it because of Oedipus' act that killed his own father and be married with his own mother? Maybe. But for me, it is because of the King Laios. Why am i saying like this? If King Laios did not wanted to kill Oedipus, he would not be given to the shepherd, and passed to Polybus' hand, and Oedipus will definately not becoming a King. Fortune teller is another big reason. As people said, do not belive so much in fortune teller. ya, it might change your life, but it might ruin your life too. It is easier to live on without knowing your future. King Laios knowing that his son, Oedipus, will kill him in the future, so he decided to kill his son rather than letting his son to kill him later. So, this is the starting for Oedipus miserable life. Oedipus' life might be better if his father did not go ask the fortune teller.
Maybe, maybe this is the faith for a wise person. God is testing him for he had such a good brain. He solved the riddle of Sphinx, he gave the light to his people; this show his wiseness. But, there is no human in this world that is wiser than the God. Oedipus could not run from his faith for killing his own father and married with his mother although he tried hard to avoid it. There must be a reason for God to give a wise thinking to Oedipus; as people said, we do not know what God is thinking.

that is an interesting way to see the story of Oedipus Rex. but somehow, it did make sense perhaps the source of conflict is from king laios. if he didn't seek the fortune teleer, then he wouldnt know his future thus he can live with his wife and son happpily ever after. unfortunately, at that era, a seer is seen as the man with biggest power, even the king seek for his advise. if, only if, he did seek for his fortune but he still keep the baby, perhaps thing might turn out differently. i mean if a father who is good to his son, would that son kill the father? i dont think so.
But it is meant to be like that, and so Oedipus fell into a cruel fate.
